Rory McIlroy, Lough Erne Resorts Touring Professional

‘A Great Place to Play, A Great Place to Stay’, Rory McIlroy
Lough Erne Resort is proud to have Rory McIlroy as its Touring Professional

Rory McIlroy has set the hearts of Golf fans across the World alight since turning Pro in September 2007, as well receiving high acclaim from some of the World’s top golfers.
In just three years, Northern Ireland prodigy Rory McIlroy has established himself as one of the top ten golfers in the world and confirmed wider predictions of a long and glittering championship career. Rory’s dramatic emergence on the world stage emphasises the strength of golfing talent from Northern Ireland and he has acknowledged the support and friendship he has received throughout his amateur and now professional career from Jim Treacy, owner of Lough Erne Resort. Their close ties were highlighted by Rory’s enthusiastic decision to become Lough Erne’s Touring Professional, representing The Resort in worldwide tournaments.

The Lough Erne Challenge

Rory helped to mark the opening of The Faldo Championship Course in July 2009 when he and three-times major champion Padraig Harrington played The Lough Erne Challenge match that attracted more than 6,000 spectators. After the overwhelming success of the 2009 Lough Erne Challenge, Rory recently announced the return of The Lough Erne Challenge to The Faldo Course on Wednesday 21st July 2010. In a unique, one-day event Northern Ireland, will be represented by Rory and Dungannon’s Darren Clarke, who will take on a Republic of Ireland team represented by three times Major champion Padraig Harrington and the reigning Irish Open champion Shane Lowry.

Rory McIlroy commented that the event would once again be an important part of his summer. “Last year was great and Lough Erne is a second home to me, so the fact that I will be playing alongside Darren on behalf of Northern Ireland makes it all the more exciting. Jim Treacy and the team at Lough Erne have been a great support and The Faldo Course at Lough Erne Resort is a truly spectacular championship course. Rest assured, there will be more than bragging rights at stake – there’ll be a lot of national pride on the line and I hope the home fans come out and help Darren and me on the day!”
